All Good at EcoDay 2010

10 March 2010 | Posted by simon in All Good News, General

Tonnes of people descended on Olympic Park in Waitakere City on Sunday 28 February for the EcoDay 2010, a celebration of all things green and sustainable, run by the EcoMatters Environment Trust. We were really chuffed to be part of it.

We had a flurry of people visiting our stand throughout the day… maybe because of the lure of free bananas. Chris was on hand to chat to people and Manukau City Mayor Len Brown popped in for a taste test too. By the end of the day there were lots of banana skins in the food scrap bin for the EcoTrust’s worm farms too. Worms love banana skins!

It’s banana day. The first bananas are in stores now!

16 February 2010 | Posted by simon in General

We’ve been racing around all the shops and supermarkets that stock our bananas checking that everything’s OK. It’s been an exciting morning. Keep a lookout for the bright yellow sales cards and posters and the slightly green Fairtrade bananas in our distinctive bag. The greenness shows that they’re fresh and won’t go off too quickly in your fruit bowl. They’ll be ready to eat in a day or so.

A smile for Fairtrade bananas.

The bananas have arrived!

10 February 2010 | Posted by admin in All Good News, General

We’ve been busy today mostly unpacking lots of boxes off…. BANANAS.

Yes they’re finally here! Yesterday New Zealand’s first ever shipment of Fairtrade bananas arrived. So did our friend and banana guru from Agrofair, Geert Demeyere, who’s been helping us make sure our bananas arrive in Aotaroa in tip top condition. Most of All Good were down to the wharf trying to spy the container then off to the warehouse to make sure that no little bugs had stowed away and eaten anything. I reckon as far as bugs go, hitching a ride in a container full of delicious Fairtrade bananas would be better than winning lotto. Geert’s happy and we’re delighted that our bananas are fresh, bug free and nearly ready to be eaten. Can’t wait till Tuesday when they’ll be in the shops.

Loading the banana boat

19 January 2010 | Posted by admin in General

We got a glimpse of the first shipment being packed in El Guabo today. The boat will be on its way from Ecuador to Panama and on to New Zealand. All going to plan we’ll see these beauties in Auckland on February 9th. You can see them being washed and put into the bags they need need to be packed in to avoid any confusion in supermarkets. Can’t wait to open one of those boxes!
