You're in!
Thanks for signing up. While you’re here, meet Carlos Modesto Cuenca.
Carlos, now 89 years old, was one of the first to grow bananas on his mountain with the El Guabo co-op. Most of the others from those early days have moved on. Carlos stayed. Bananas gave Carlos and his wife the stability to raise eight children on Miraflores. Their daughters studied and became professionals. One son still works the farm by his side.
“Our lives have changed completely,” Carlos says, “compared to how things were before.” Now, after a lifetime of work, he’s quietly preparing to hand it all on. “What we work for is for our children,” he says. “To pass it on to them.”
Every bunch that leaves Miraflores carries that love. “We grow our fruit with great care,” he says, “so it arrives in excellent condition.” And to everyone in New Zealand who buys it, Carlos wants to say thank you. “Because of you, we can keep working here and sending you the fruit we grow.”
